German`kriegsverdienstkreuz` award document signed by Karl Freiherr von Thungen operation Valkyrie (1893 – 1944) Generalleutnant with the 18th Panzer Division, Knight’s Cross Recipient, and appointed by the July 20th conspirators to command the defense group of Berlin. Though Thuengen did not follow the conspirators’ orders, he was arrested by the Gestapo regardless and executed by firing squad. Rare partly-printed D.S. as Major General of the 18th Panzer Division, “Division Gefechtsstand” (“division’s command post”), april 5th, 1942, awarding the War Merit Cross, Second Class with Swords to Corporal Oskar Fritzsche. Thuengen signs in the bottom-right corner in ink. Fine condition.
